For the 12th time the Short Film Festival invites children and adolescents between the age of 4 and 14 as well as grown-ups to a week of short films at the cinema. All in all, 50 short films from 20 countries will be screened.
This year's focus lies on the cooperation of young and old. Three programmes are dedicated to the subject of children and the elderly, proving once again that the relationship between the generations of grandchildren and grandparents is a very special one.
The opening programme Lifetimes tells great stories about elderly people and children. They learn from each other, share secrets and exchange stories about vexing tooth problems. These five short films illustrate a variety of intergenerational relations: shared adventures, shattering truths and old and young oddities... As a special treat we invited a brass band with all the bells and whistles. The 30 musicians of the Spielmannszug FTSV Komet Blankenese will musically escort the audience into the auditorium, enticing young and old alike with their music.
Sunday, 30 May, 3 PM, zeise cinema
Afterwards there will be an exciting handicrafts and games party in the zeise Hallen. Furthermore, children may use their tickets to invite their grandma, grandaunt or that nice old lady from the neighbourhood for free.
A special highlight is the international film competition High Five! (Gib mir Fünf!). True to the Motto Milktooth and Silver Hair, the young film makers used films of five minutes and less to answer questions like: What is the connecting element between different generations? What can they do together, what makes them sad and what makes them laugh?
The two children's juries are going to select three winning films. Each award is worth 600 Euros and was sponsored by GEOlino.
Saturday, 5 June, 3 PM, zeise cinema
Additionally our special programme Tied Up is all about the wonderful world of handicrafts. Many film makers use handicrafts to create extraordinary films. We show the young and the old as enthusiastic tinkerers and how sewing, knitting and crocheting is not just for old ladies. We give a fresh look at old techniques, inspiring the viewers to try it out themselves.
Wednesday, 2 June, 10 AM zeise cinema and Saturday, 5 June, 11 AM, 3001
With these three programmes we emphasize that the Mo&Friese Festival is not just for the kids.

Furthermore, the jurors will jointly award three prizes worth 600 Euros to the winners of the “High Five!” competition.
The Screenings
The ten programmes will be screened at the following auditoriums: zeise kinos, 3001, LOLA Kulturzentrum, Gymnasium Ohmoor and the Honigfabrik in Wilhelmsburg.
The screenings in the late mornings are especially appealing to pupils and pre-school children. (You can sign up groups at www.moundfriese.de).
During weekdays the afternoon programmes will commence at 4 PM in order to allow children to watch the screenings after school.
All programmes will be humorously moderated and national and international film makers are invited to stand answer for questions on their films
Special Events
Mo&Friese Late Night
On Thursday evening we would like to show all grown-up guests of the Mo&Friese festival that the films from a children's festival can be great entertainment for those past their childhood as well. Late in the evening we invite you to the Late Night at the 3001 Cinema, where we will show a selection of great children's films that are as exciting for grown-ups as they are for kids. Whether it is a documentary, drama or animation, there is a lot in these programmes for children between the age of 4 and 12 that is of value for grown-ups, too. That is especially true since the lines between children's and grown-up films are often blurry: Many of the Mo&Friese films have been originally submitted to the International Short Film Festival Hamburg.
So welcome to the world of children's films. Come and enjoy a colourful selection of films with the attending film makers.
Thursday, 3 June, 10 PM, zeise Cinema
The Short Film School introduces itself
The Short Film School (KurzFilmSchule, KFS) is a project of the Short Film Agency and the Hamburg Department of Culture, Sports and Media. It aims at supporting the schools' filmic education by cooperating with Hamburgian film artists in bringing an artistic hands-on approach regarding film to the schools. In the last four years many schools in Hamburg have produced a great number of colourful, funny, exciting and interesting films with the KurzFilmSchule in five-day workshops. On Wednesday, 2 June at 4 PM, students from the class 8c of the Gymnasium Corveystraße will present a selection of film clips at the zeise Cinema.
Also:
Student Press Card
Once again students will get the opportunity to participate in the festival as young film critics. Those kids who want to write about the festival for their school paper may get press cards for themselves and up to four fellow students. The corresponding form can be found on our website. (Deadline for sign-ups: 25 May). Furthermore, everyone can be an on-line-critic: Children can publish their say about the films on our website under the category Filmkritiker online.
Festival Cinematic Trailer
Just like the films of our special programme “Tied Up”, this year's cinematic trailer for the festival was made by using handicrafts. Agnes Nuber used a needle and some yarn in order to painstakingly stitch the trailer herself. The soundtrack, which was written and recorded by Sönke Dorau, basically comes from a living room as well.
Interview Partners and Press Material
We gladly arrange interviews with the festival director Agnes Nuber.
